When you realize you’re feeling depressed…
It hits you suddenly. But you realize you’ve been feeling this way for a long time.
Everything in your life looks gray. You don’t look forward to things the way you used to.
What started this feeling? Was it a break-up, an unsatisfying job, or a difficult childhood? Or perhaps, it is merely waking up to the insidious injustices in our world.
Perhaps all this quarantine and away from your usual outlets of family, friends, yoga class, restaurants, vacations, and community gatherings have started to take their toll.
The load is almost too much to bear.
I want you to know- this isn’t completely a “you” thing.
Our culture has socialized us to continually put pressure on ourselves and to compete with other people.
Part of how you’re feeling has to do with comparing your life to others.
You might also be very tired with our “grind culture,” as it eats away at any semblance of rest or relaxation you might be able to grab on the weekends.
A multitude of outlets preys on the wiring of our nervous system.
Phones buzzing, notifications, receiving (or not receiving) likes and comments set off a cascade of neurochemicals in our brains and bodies. Processed foods, drinks and alcohol high in sugar and salt also take advantage of a primal reward system in our brains.
These devices, apps, and foods are designed to use our biology to benefit people who profit from our wanting more – and not our own benefit.
We’re wired to want more – but in our current system, we never measure up.
No wonder we’re all feeling down!
You’re feeling hopeless, powerless, and like there is no end in sight, asking yourself, “Will I ever feel better?” The short answer is yes.
It’s not your fault. But you can do something about it.
Right now, you’re waking up. And that is hard. But the good news is that you are waking up.
To feel better, you must have awareness about what’s not working.
And here you are. You’ve already taken the first step.
Now, it’s time to take action.
Awareness is wonderful. And, you need more than to know what needs to change to make real, lasting impact in your well-being.
You’ve got to know how, and then do.
You can’t do this all on your own.
If you could, you would already have done it, right?
You need expert guidance.
That’s where I come in.
Together, we’ll peel back layers of conditioning to get to the heart of your desire for your life. We’ll work together to ease your distressed mind.
You’ll learn that it’s ok to take responsibility for some parts of your life, and take other burdens off your shoulders that are not your burdens to bear.
Each step you take is a step toward healing.
Intentionality and consistency will help you see the changes you’ve been desperate for.
You’ve got to learn to put yourself first. Like putting on your oxygen mask first on an airplane. If you’re not taken care of, you can’t take care of anything else.
Therapy with me is about coming to terms with who you are and falling in love with yourself.
I love doing this work with people just like you – who want a more sustainable way toward wellness and who understand that feeling better happens in relationships.
Therapy can help you come back home to yourself.
Together, we will work to alleviate depression, ease your load, and explore where you can take action that will put you on the path to allow you to heal.
